AIOTI Days 2024
Continuum, digital twins and virtual worlds
AIOTI is organising annual event that builds upon five successful editions of AIOTI Signature gatherings. AIOTI Days 2024 will feature the Thematic and Project sessions, Hackathon and the Scientific Conference GIECS, guaranteeing a rich and comprehensive experience for all participants.
At the core of AIOTI Days 2024 is the exploration of how the continuum and digital twins meet virtual worlds in the industrial space, creating a physical-digital virtual continuum.
The concept of the computing continuum refers to a paradigm where computing resources and services seamlessly span a range of devices, from IoT and edge devices and sensors to centralized cloud infrastructure. It envisions a unified and integrated ecosystem where data processing and computation occur across a spectrum of devices, enabling a more efficient and responsive computing environment and digital twin implementation.
The computing continuum is driven by the increasing volume of data generated by IoT and at the edge, the need for real-time processing in certain applications, and the desire to optimise resource usage. As technology evolves, the computing continuum is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the future of computing architectures, IoT and Edge Computing are at the forefront of these developments.
Virtual worlds enable remote operation and monitoring of industrial processes. With the integration of sensors and IoT devices, operators can oversee and control equipment from remote locations, enhancing efficiency and reducing the need for physical presence on-site.
Overall, virtual worlds play a crucial role in improving efficiency, safety, and innovation in the industrial domain by providing realistic simulations, supporting design processes, and enabling better collaboration and decision-making.

Renewable Materials Conference
During the three conference days, leading experts will present successful “drop-in” solutions that maintain the existing structure of the chemical industry but switch the carbon source from fossil to renewable carbon. At the same time, a new chemical industry is emerging with novel building blocks and polymers, with innovative processes, for example, from biotechnology and electrochemistry, and with entirely new functionalities. One special in-depth session will focus on furans, FDCA, and PEF, and the other will focus on the biodegradation of polymers such as PHA or PLA, PBAT, and PBS.
The unique concept of presenting all renewable materials solutions at one event hits the mark: bio-based, CO2-based and recycled are the only alternatives to fossil-based chemicals and materials. After its successful third edition in the year 2023, the Renewable Materials Conference has established itself as one of the most important conferences for renewable materials worldwide.
Speakers from world-renowned companies, pioneering start-ups, high-profile research and high-level politics will present and discuss a wide range of innovative solutions based on biomass, CO2 and recycling in 80 presentations (main and parallel sessions), 20 panel discussions and several expert workshops. The Renewable Materials Conference is the very best place to catch up on the latest innovations and implementations in the field of renewable materials that will shape the future of entire industries.
Cellulose Fibres Conference 2024
Recently, the European Commission has made a thorough transition towards sustainability and circularity for different industries, especially the textile sector, which is a main focus. This demands a new way of thinking with regard to sustainability and circularity within the textile economy. This process already starts with the selection of fibres for the textiles. Generally, textiles consist of fibres, which can be made from renewable and non-renewable resources. A first step towards improving the sustainability of textiles is the change from non-renewable to renewable fibres. In consequence, the textile industry shows a steadily increasing, enormous demand for renewable and sustainable fibres.
The increasing demand for renewable fibres cannot only be satisfied with natural fibres such as hemp or cotton; here, cellulose fibres offer an additional solution. Recycled textiles are also a readily available source of cellulose fibres. Cellulose is the main component of plant cell walls and a natural polymer. Therefore, cellulose is bio-based and biodegradable, even in marine environments, where its degradation does not cause any microplastic. The different production technologies for extracting cellulose from plants can also be used for the recycling of cellulose, which enables the material to be circular.
With a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) between 5 and 10 %, cellulose fibres have been a success story within the textile market over the past decade. Similar growth rates are expected in the following years. This makes cellulosic fibres the fastest growing fibre group in the textile industry and therefore the largest investment sector in the global circular bio-economy.
However, the recycling of the cellulose has some hurdles. How can technology overcome these obstacles? How can markets achieve a circularity of the material? How can the cellulose fibre industry contribute to the sustainability and circularity of the textile sector? These and other questions represent the lead topics of the upcoming Cellulose Fibres Conference on 13-14 March 2024 in Cologne.
The Cellulose Fibres Conference 2024 will cover the entire value chain, from lignocellulose, chemical pulp, cellulose fibres such as rayon, viscose, modal or lyocell and new developments to a wide range of applications: Textiles of all kinds, nonwovens such as wet wipes as well as new areas such as composites, packaging or nanocellulose in the food industry. The conference will give deep insights into the promising future of cellulose fibres, which perfectly fits the current trends of circular economy, recycling and sustainable carbon cycles.
