In Preparation for the Decorative Panels use case

RECENDT will develop, in collaboration with RISE and PODCOMP, a THz sensor to measure moisture in bio-based panels used in outdoor applications.

THz technology is a non-contact and non-destructive technology that has been proven for material characterisation, quality assurance and long-term monitoring of materials. As a first step, broadband THz spectroscopy will be used to determine the best frequency range and sensor option for the field measurements, which depends on several factors, including panel thickness, pore size, or required spatial resolution.

Samples will be tested in a controlled laboratory environment, and the new approach will be compared with already established moisture measurement methods. Based on the results, a prototype for a THz moisture sensor will be developed to perform long-term measurements directly on-site and is easy to operate.
